The Wrath To Come. Part 1.
I was reading a bit of the Bible this morning and something made me stop in my tracks. It was this:
From 1 Thessalonians 1:8-10, the apostle Paul wrote:
“Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead – Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.”
It was the last eight words:
“…Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.”
The coming wrath.
I find this both reassuring and disturbing: reassuring that God’s Word tells me, in black and white, that Jesus rescues me from the coming wrath; but disturbing because it mentions a coming wrath at all.
What is this ‘coming wrath?’
And more to the point, who will it affect?
